We’ve been enjoying “In Treatment” on HBO. The show has been a real godsend with the blight of entertainment caused by the writers’ strike. It’s also a bonus that there’s a new show every week day. We sorely needed some kind of antidote to the endless reality drek that’s being pumped onto the tube in the absence of scripts.

I think I enjoy it because I’ve spent my fair share of time in various talk therapies, and I think Conny View definition in a new window enjoys it because she hasn’t.

One thing I’ve learned from watching the show is if I ever seek out a therapist, I want him to sound like Gabriel Byrne.

Greasing the wheels

I was going to write a helpful little tale about how I got the lead out of the site. It was pretty darn pokey before. You may have noticed the performance is a bit snappier now. So what was wrong, and how did I fix it?

I noticed that a test WordPress site I had was pretty responsibe, so I figured it had to do with some of the plug-ins I had installed. I strongly suspected that the SimplePie plug-in that I use to aggregate the RSS for the sidebar content was the issue. But even when I disabled almost all of the plug-ins, I still had problems.

So I actually removed all the non-standard plug-ins, and disabled the rest. Suddenly the site was fast. Just to confirm my theory, I put the SimplePie plug-in back, but left it off. Still fast. Turned it on. Still fast.

So the good news is the sidebar aggregation isn’t an issue. It must be one of the other plug-ins:

One by one, I put them back in, and turned them on. I got down to the last one, Comment Timeout, and thought I had finally found it.

But I put that one back in and turned it on, and things were still fast.

So, honestly, I have no idea why it is better. Must have been some problem with the ducts. But you blow your nose, and it’s fixed.

I very much enjoyed the “Femdom in Advertising” gallery over at Unspeakable Axe, a weblog by a thoughtful, articulate submissive man. Reminds me of that Cuervo ad from several years ago. Pity I don’t have a better quality scan.

I was particularly fond of this D&G ad from his gallery:

I wonder if they sell those metal corsets…

In the ever constant pressure to cut costs, I’m sure my company will be examining this innovation: The Hip Office:

With this, we can drastically reduce the amount of square footage per employee, as well as eliminating any need for expensive office chairs and desk systems.

I think the only issue holding up deployment is that laptops cost more than desktops. But if the other cost savings are factored in, I bet we will have a winner.

I hope my office has good WiFi coverage in the mens’ room.
