According to the last post, summer starts in -7 days
One year of college completed. The last quarter involved much more work than the first two. Before Spring quarter started I thought it was going to be easy. I would be in class from 11am to 2pm then I would be done. I don't think I intended on taking a chem lab because all of them were full, but I managed to get into one and after the first lecture (chem labs have weekly lectures in addition to the 6 hours of lab a week) I knew that the quarter would suck. Moreover, after each 3 hour chem lab I went to work...also in a lab...for 4 more hours. When the weekend came I'd be completely burned out and unable to bring myself to do anything related to my classes. This killed me every time a lab report was due the following week. I wouldn't get around to doing it until the day before, and each time that happened I knew that in order for me to finish the lab report, I would have to stay up the entire night and work continuously (which in some cases was not enough time to finish). Sometimes I had other things due the following days, so I had to realize that sleep for the next several nights was not a possibility. This was something new to me because high school never demanded it.
Sleep was deadly. One quick break or eye rest would lead to failure. My insidious bed beckoned for me constantly. I...what was I saying? One time falling asleep by accident actually proved to be beneficial. I had a 200 point (20% of grade) lab report due the next day, which was essentially the combination of three labs. I worked for about twelve hours until it was around 4:30 in the morning, and then all of a sudden it was 11:07am and my lab was in three minutes. What scared me was that according to the syllabus, every day that the report was late would cost 20 points. I know, that's only 2% of the total grade in the class, but I had told myself this many times for many different things (i.e. "I don't have to do well on this midterm...it's only 5% of the grade") and these had added up. I was pissed at myself the entire day, but I eventually finished the lab and turned it in to my TA. I'm glad I turned it in late because only ten points were taken off for it being late (their mistake) and I got a much higher grade than I would have if I didn't work on it for an extra day. Moral of the story: always procrastinate.
