Santa was good to me this year, mostly because I told her exactly what I wanted: LEGO Mindstorms NXT. Now I can build my very own robot overlord, who I for one would welcome.
I loved LEGOs as a kid, and I like to program, so combining the two is surely good for hours of useless but amusing tinkering. Besides, how else can I make a device to help me get Xbox achievements related to tedious button mashing? It’ll be perfect!

Though, these LEGOs aren’t the simple brick LEGOs of my youth. Oh no, these are fancy-pants adult level LEGOs, so I’m having to learn from almost scratch. And added to that, the programming tool which comes with it is some bullshit “visual programming language“. I don’t want diagrams and doodles, I want manly source code making my robot go. Looks like I will have to use Robot C, which I’ll be able to use on my Mac Book Pro thanks to the magic of Parallels.

All in all, building a robot button masher, never mind an overlord, is hard with this stuff. But it’s fun having a little wheeled doodad chasing the dog around, so I’ll keep at it.
