A word of advice to people about to install OS 10.3: Go to your login/startup items and disable everything. I learned this the difficult way. I had installed a few little software widgets like ASM and one of them was a version that was viciously un-Panther friendly. First it caused a number of application to crash at launch, and after a restart, it prevented the Finder from launching.

So disable your login/startup items, and insure they are up-to-date before enabling them.

Other than that, the upgrade was smooth. I do like Expose, and I am not re-installing ASM because Expose seems to offer a way to switch between applications and windows that I can deal with.

I finally attached my iBot Firewire camera to the iMac and gave iChatAV a whirl, and now I can see why people are raving. The audio conferencing is impressive, and the video stuff actually works too. Now I need more buddies with cameras. Or maybe not.

I’m looking forward to playing around with the new development tools in 10.3 The plan is to use xCode to make my game client for “Hell’s Bells” with.
