Every now and then I take a look at my logs to see if my ten readers are still popping by on occasion. When I indulge in this exercise, it is clear that there are almost more machines coming to these pages than humans. Seems my humor plays well to software.
Some of these machines, like the cuddly GoogleBot, are polite, and welcome. Others are rude and obnoxious, slamming the site over and over again, eating my bandwidth and leaving greasy footprints in my log.
Since I am lazy, all I’ve done up until know is get outraged for a few minutes and shake my fist in the air. Thanks to this fine entry on Dive Into Mark on “How to block spambots, ban spybots, and tell unwanted robots to go to hell”, a concise and accurate title if there ever was one, I now have my own robot bouncer at the door.
