The T-Mobile Sidekick hasn’t been as much help in my blogging as I hoped.

Don’t get me wrong, the gadget certainly has great potential. There are blogs out there which are exclusively updated via the Sidekick. But for lack of one feature, I am hesitant to use it.

There is no cut and paste.

It also doesn’t help that there isn’t a good editor on it. The notepad is fine, but notes are limited to one thousand characters. The editor in the email can handle longer text, but any text sent via email gets hard wrapped. The only way to get a long text entry off the Sidekick is to type directly in the textedit area of a web form.

That scares the crap out of me.

I am not going to type a lot of text into a web form, hit the “submit” button, and pray I don’t get an error that causes my precious words to evaporate. I’ll do this on my desktop machine because I can use copy and paste to keep a backup. Without copy and paste, it’s an exercise in faith. When it comes to technology, I’m a man of little faith.

Cut and paste is coming to the Sidekick in a future update, which I am very much looking forward to. If I had it, I could write my posts as a draft email, copy the text, and paste it into plog (since Wireless Blogger is broken). I could also use an email-to-Blogger gateway (I think TextRouter is one) if it wasn’t brain damaged (like the one provided by Blogger Pro is.)

I wonder what other Sidekick users are doing.
