New York City meets Munich

November 12th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

In New York City, the rain never comes straight down. This makes using an umbrella a mostly symbolic gesture, or an exercise in aerodynamics. But in either case, you will get wet.

However, this is no excuse for deploying gigantic umbrellas wider than the entire sidewalk. This is a city, not a golf course or a beach. Part of the implied contract of being in New York City in the rain is we all get wet together. You cannot attempt to stay dry at the expense of those around you. Forcing others to dodge and to duck these giant rude rain domes will guarantee an eventual karmic inclemency retribution of the worst kind: the taxi splash.

You have been warned.
