It will probably come as no surprise that I am a bit of a gadget person. But what makes or breaks any device for me is one thing: usability. This virtue is something I not only look for in an MP3 player, or a cell phone, or a PDA, but also in a vibrator.

It comes down to one observation: doesn’t anyone who makes vibrators think about how to make the controls of the vibrator easy to use with one hand?

Most basic vibrators have a knob at the end, which you turn to adjust the speed, like the one pictured on the right.

This seems like a good idea, but in reality, it’s a crappy idea. No matter what, it always takes two hands to turn this knob: one to hold the vibrator, and one to turn the knob. This is only made more difficult when there’s lube on your hands, or when the knob is just one eighth of an inch wide, or when the cap which holds the batteries turns more easily than the damn knob.

This is a bad design. Vibrators that have little wired remotes aren’t much better, since they also require two hands, and the damn remote slides around, or the wire gets in the way. And try as I might, lube ends up on the remote, which is impossible to clean fully, so it’s always sticky.

All I want is a one thumb slider on the base of the vibrator. That’s all. Push forward for faster, push back for slower. And please make the switch lube proof.

I think the folks at Good VibrationsThis link is meant for adults. might be able to help me… Too bad they don’t have a wedding registry service.
