Have sex, go to jail

June 28th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Thinking about spending a romantic holiday with your girlfriend or boyfriend in beautiful Georgia? Better get married first. Either that or get back over state lines if you need to fornicate.

The district attorney who’s currently prosecuting two sixteen year olds with the law thinks it makes sense. Even though sixteen is old enough for consent in Georgia, he feels the state has a right to determine what juveniles do. Maybe he needs to go look up what the law has to say about the “age of consent” again, since he is the district attorney. His logic that the law is a good law because it’s used to prosecute “public sexual conduct” also defies understanding. Maybe what Georgia needs isn’t a fornication law, but a public sexual conduct law.

A fine reminder how prosecutors will twist any law they can do go after what they want, and why stupid laws like fornication and sodomy laws should be pulled from the books.

Welcome to the land of the free, as long as you keep it in your pants.
