Mistakes were made

New York City meets Munich

We have arrived

The flight was too easy. I can’t even do the cliche bitch and moan about security hassles or annoying passengers. The journey was without incident, unless you count the mentally deficient person working at the Hudson News stand at La Guardia, who spent five minutes interrogating another customer trying to fathom some small talk he made. One of those moments when “awkward” combines with “annoying.”

The weather in New York when we left for Chicago on Friday was warm and sunny. It was one of the nicest days we’ve had in weeks. We got to experience about five minutes of it as we caught a taxi for the airport.

We arrive in Chicago to temperatures of -50 degrees, or at least that’s what the sign along the traffic jammed highway said, as we crept along slowly to our hotel. Conny View definition in a new window thinks the minus sign was just a glitch, but when we got out of the taxi, for a moment we both thought it might be right.

It may of had something to with how we were dressed, in fairness, which was for slightly warmer weather. We’re keeping our fingers crossed things will start to thaw.

We’ve settled into the Omni Ambassador East, which we’re quite happy with. Though, I personally cannot consider a hotel version of WebTV “high speed Internet access” no matter how much bandwidth they have. If I can connect my computer to the Internet, it doesn’t do me a whole lot of good. Dial out at the hotel is useless too, at $1.25 a call, and connections last about 5 minutes before dropping. But other than that minor nit, we like the accommodations and the neighborhood.

Now to venture out, get some breakfast and soak up a bit more of the town before heading over to for the main event.
