Trick or Treat

Working at the contingency center is a lot like being at summer camp. For one, it’s clearly a temporary thing. It’s not comfortable, you have no private space, and there’s not enough toilets. Being there sucks, but there’s nothing that can be done about it, so you have to make the best of it. The people running it know it sucks, so they go out of their way to try to make it “fun.”

For us, at Camp Contingency Center, this means things like lots of free food and soda. This would seem cool, but the food isn’t that good, so it still sucks. Sometimes the food is even “special,” like a barbeque outside. This also would seem cool, but they run out of the good food, and there’s no beer, so it still sucks.

But, I will say this. People are trying hard to make it not suck. And that does help. Because really, no one has to bother to do anything, but they do.

I’m especially delighted at the most recent effort to make things not suck. For Halloween, which is a Wednesday, we can come in full costume, and there will even be a contest for the best costume.

Now that’s a fine opportunity for me. The big question is: can I manage to get into one of >Conny’s corsets?

This may actually not suck!
